Betwixt and Between

Imagine for a moment, that we live in the midst of a time upon the Earth when there is little reading or writing amongst the peoples. We gather and discuss our most sacred beliefs of how the world is and would like to preserve our understanding and pass it to future generations and other tribes. So we devise ways of preserving what we know through the mediums of song, story, art and dance. Each time we engage in these rituals there is a palpable sense of knowing amongst us that does not need to be explained.

Time marches on, people come and go and old rituals are practiced less. They are losing an original purpose as a conveyance of what is known; writing has taken their place. What is little recognised is that writing changes an orientation in space-time; you won’t even sense that you’ve moved.

Far into the future our ways are scrutinised by scholars who are scratching their heads and trying to decipher how we had perceived the world and what we had been up to; we appear so primitive to them. We are silent and wait in the wings for them to locate where we are; time has a funny way of looping back in on itself, language does that, you see.

"Reorientation"

I had written previously, Would it sound, well either a little ‘woo-woo’ or just plain ordinary, to suggest that your purpose in life, in fact any purpose in life, is to locate the source of your authentic self?”

Written or spoken language can be tricky in that pointing towards any states of being requires for a recipient to be receptive; to listen beyond what is superficial to that which exists at a deeper or intuitive level, so that there is comprehension of what is being communicated; it reaches into knowing.

If what is being communicated does not touch upon the ground of ‘where you and I meet and are one’ there is potential for misunderstanding or conflict. For example, ‘authentic self’ or ‘being-ness’ can have different meanings for people; so too, the ancient maxim ‘Know Thyself’ can be interpreted as nothing more than a pithy recommendation to be honest about one’s intentions and forthright in speech and action.

A dream: wheels within wheels

(turn everything on its head and therein you find the truth)

Imagine for a moment ~ you are attempting to drive a vehicle towards a given destination; you are moving slowly, almost as if you are struggling with being in command of the vehicle.
Suddenly the vehicle appears to take on a mind of its own and it turns about and propels at an alarming speed towards what looks like a town, but is in dim light. You are pulled out of the vehicle by two giants – they grab hold of your ankles and hold you upside down. You feel fear and a thought crosses through your mind “Am I going to die?”
The giants whisper in your ear: ‘there are worse things than death’
